New augmented reality tools at CAREL

The recent pandemic and consequent restrictions have brought about a rethinking of the tools we use at work and the testing of new solutions. At CAREL, in addition to the large-scale introduction of remote working, augmented reality tools have been introduced to support training and service between production sites.

“At the end of February, we found ourselves unable to cross the border and reach our colleagues at the plant in Croatia who had asked for our support”, explained Andrea Maniero, Digital Manufacturing Manager. “We realised that we would urgently need a viable alternative to face-to-face support. Technology offered the solution, and in record time we introduced an augmented reality system for supporting technical personnel and workers in real time, albeit remotely”.

The solution adopted involves an augmented reality system comprising a wearable device and software, so as to allow real-time virtual collaboration via remote audio/video interactions. This type of collaboration will also have implications for worker training and support for more delicate operations or in the event of critical issues.
